It will also look the emerging growth of investments in sustainable protein.
This session will explore questions such as:
- What are the implications of the increasing focus on biodiversity and nature-based solutions for food and agricultural systems?
- How can finance towards sustainable food systems support the transition to net zero emissions?
- How is finance shifting towards sustainable protein and what are the opportunities and challenges in Asian markets?
- How can Asian economies and financial institutions benefit from the growth in sustainable protein and the transformation of the food system to net zero?

12:00-12:45 BST / 13:00-13:45 CEST / 07:00-07:45 EDT / 19:00-19:45 CST
As the global economy emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, there is increasing recognition that food system transitions can contribute to the objectives of ‘building back better’ and preventing future pandemics. Repurposing subsidies and aligning finance flows with global climate and biodiversity goals can contribute to these objectives. Three in four emerging infectious diseases in humans are passed on from animal and COVID-19 has served as a warning of the role modern animal production systems can play in increasing zoonotic disease risk. The opening plenary will explore these issues, including how recovery packages in the EU and UK can contribute to a sustainable food system.
